For many children the dream of attending college is stifled by the fact that they just don’t have the finances in place to pay the tuition fees.  College is expensive and the cost is constantly rising as each year passes.

There are steps parents can take when the child is younger that will help ensure that some money for college has been set aside.  One is to invest in a college savings plan.  Most financial institutions offer these.  They have representatives who are eager to discuss with parents the best route for them to take in order to have a nest egg put away for college. 

The parents will want to consider how much they can afford to invest each month and review that figure from time-to-time as their financial situation changes.  A good rule is to save a small percentage of your net income and as your income increases so will the portion allocated towards money for college.

In some cases it’s simply too difficult for parents to save money for college.  This may be because of tight finances when the child was young or perhaps the loss of a job.  This does not mean that the child doesn’t have other alternatives that can help him or her find the money for college.

In order to receive money for college through scholarships the child first has to find out which scholarships are available to them.  A good place to start is with the high school guidance counselor.  He or she will have a list of scholarships in the area and what criteria are needed to receive them.  They also, often, have the application forms and will guide the child through the application process. 

In addition to the scholarships that the school has knowledge of, there are literally hundreds of other available nationwide.  These can be found by doing a search on the internet.  There are several websites that list all of the scholarships that are available along with the application process.  For a child who is in need of money for college this is a wonderful resource.

Money for college can be found and for a gifted student with a drive to succeed they can apply for and receive scholarship money that will guarantee they get the education they deserve.
