Nursing
Students
A quality education for nursing students will ensure that skilled
nurses will result. There are many educational programs available for
nursing students, and well as student nurse organizations that offer
support for nursing students and provide access to study guides and
other materials to assist them in passing state licensure boards.
Currently there is a nursing shortage in our country, and nursing
students are offered accelerated courses and degree programs to get
them licensed and out in the facilities working as fast as possible.
This is not always a good thing. Some institutions are more interested
in the money paid to them in tuition, than in providing a quality
education to its students.
Associations for nursing students advocate for quality educational
programs and advances in nursing education, so that nursing students
learn the necessary skills and attitudes, and are prepared to be
professional leaders in healthcare. Student nurse associations offer
support in a variety of ways to nursing students. Through their
memberships, nursing students can take part in national conventions,
apply for nursing education scholarships if qualified, and take
advantage of the many benefits that membership has to offer. The
National Student Nurses Association is the group that all nursing
students should join. Visit www.nsna.org for more information,
including membership information, dues, benefits of joining,
organization publications, nursing student resources, links, nursing
career information, scheduled activities, and a live chat room for
nursing student. There are also state affiliated programs for nursing
students that offer state specific scholarships and resources for
attaining state licensure.
There are many more online resources available to nursing students,
such as the Student Nurse Information Center, located at
www.nurse-center.com/studentnurse. This site has great
resources for nursing students like nursing journals, formulas and
conversions for nursing math, specialty specific links, information
regarding nursing schools and educational resources, internet based
resources, hospital based learning modules, and information regarding
state specific licensure requirements. There are other online sites
that nursing students can research specific specialties to provide
information to students which will assist them in deciding which
specialty would be right for them.
These nursing students are the future of healthcare in our country, and
if they do not have a quality education and clinical learning
experiences, our quality of care will be greatly affected. Nursing
education should not be like an assembly line; these nursing students
deserve to be the best, and they can only be that way through a quality
education. Nurses are the core of healthcare, and without them, our
system will greatly suffer.
